The Danish design brand Vipp is releasing an updated version of its best-selling Swivel chair this September, introducing two new models tailored for long hours at a desk. The Vipp 454 and Vipp 455 represent a deliberate refinement of a design that has already proven its versatility in both creative studios and corporate offices.
Refined ergonomics for extended use
The Vipp 454 and Vipp 455 feature a lengthened backrest and an enlarged seat with extra padding. The 454 omits armrests entirely, while the 455 includes slender armrests that extend seamlessly into the padded backrest.
Both chairs are available in a premium “+” version, which adds adjustable seat height and a tilt function.
The core of the seat is built from a firm structure of braided belts and wood, wrapped in dense layers of foam, creating a construction that is soft yet supportive.
The base uses a pivot construction with either four or five legs, fitted with castors or gliders depending on the setting.
Kasper Egelund, third-generation co-owner and CEO of Vipp, described the update as a natural progression. “The expansion of the series has been a natural evolution, much like many other Vipp collections, adapting over time in response to the different ways we’ve seen customers use our chairs across a variety of settings,” he said. “After all, our iconic Vipp bin now comes in six sizes but it took us 87 years to get there. Product development at Vipp has always been driven by longevity rather than speed.”

The Swivel chair series debuted five years ago and has since become a staple in creative and corporate offices worldwide. Its adoption in diverse settings demonstrates its ability to bridge the gap between aesthetic appeal and practical performance. Egelund noted that the company’s iconic pedal bin, first introduced in 1939, now comes in six sizes—after nearly nine decades. “That design DNA of durable, functional products that combine industrial precision and ease of everyday use is very much at the core of everything we do,” adds Egelund.
The chairs reflect the brand’s signature blend of industrial precision and everyday functionality. The aluminum frame exemplifies Vipp’s expertise in metalwork, a craft the company has honed since its founding in 1939.

While the original Swivel chair already had a following, the new versions could appeal to a broader audience, particularly in hybrid work environments where flexibility and support matter more than ever. The updated Swivel chairs will be available starting this fall.
