To create the bird feeder, you’ll need a few materials, including wire cutters, spray paint, and a heavy-duty adhesive like Gorilla Glue Epoxy.

An old chandelier can be transformed into a unique bird feeder that will attract birds to your yard. Chandeliers typically have multiple arms with lights, which can be replaced with containers of birdseed. This project can add a touch of whimsy to your outdoor space and provide a fun way to repurpose an old light fixture.

You can find an old chandelier at a thrift store if you don’t have one at home. Thrift stores often carry a variety of light fixtures, including chandeliers. Don’t worry if the electrical parts are broken, as they will be removed anyway. You can also find small bowls to attach to the chandelier’s arms at a thrift store or online.

Creating the Bird Feeder

To create the bird feeder, you’ll need a few materials, including wire cutters, spray paint, and a heavy-duty adhesive like Gorilla Glue Epoxy. Start by removing the electrical components from the chandelier, including the lightbulbs, sockets, and wires. Leave the dish-like parts at the end of the arms, known as bobeches, as you’ll be attaching the birdseed bowls to them.

Next, clean the chandelier thoroughly to remove any dirt or grime. You can then give it a makeover with paint, such as Rust-Oleum Spray Paint, choosing a color that complements your other yard decor. Wash and dry the small bowls and paint them if desired before gluing them to the chandelier’s bobeches.

Hanging the Bird Feeder

Once the glue has set, hang the chandelier in a spot where you can observe it, such as a tree in view from your patio. Use the chain on the fixture to secure it in place. Add birdseed to the bowls, and consider using different types to attract a variety of birds. You can also construct a DIY birdbath to provide a water source for the birds.

To make your bird feeder extra special, you can hang a strand of regular beads from the center of the chandelier. Avoid using reflective materials like crystal chains, as they can scare birds. You can also add solar lights to the fixture to enjoy it at night, wrapping a battery-operated strand around the arms to give it a whimsical touch.
